LDC is the private equity arm of Lloyds Banking Group and has been an active investor in UK companies since 1981, during which time it has supported over 650 management teams and invested more than £5.5bn in mid-sized businesses.
It backs management teams from UK-based medium sized companies seeking up to £100m of investment to fund management buyouts or development capital transactions. Its initial investments are between £10m and £50m and it looks to invest £400m per annum. Its investment criteria are that a company must demonstrate minimum revenues of £5m with profits of £1m and a two-year profits history.
The firm invests solely in UK companies and has 12 locations in the UK. Over the past ten years it has backed companies based in more than 100 UK towns and cities.
Between January 2018 and June 2025, it invested in 48 UK companies with an average turnover of £23.4 million and 197 employees.
In 2025, LDC invested in companies such as Lending Metrics a firm that offers financial software services, Precise.TV a firm that develops machine learning technology wherein they invested £21.0 million, and scaleup FSP, a firm that provides digital consultancy services and Wireless CCTV, a manufacturer of surveillance supplies.
Lloyds Development Capital (LDC), has maintained a strong pace of investment and exit activity in the UK mid-market throughout 2025, underlining its commitment to high-growth regional businesses. Notable recent investments include backing the plant-based food manufacturer Bespoke Kitchen Foods and providing capital to Harper James, a specialist legal firm, to support their expansion plans, including the adoption of AI tools. Additionally, LDC has continued its successful strategy of supporting and exiting portfolio companies, demonstrated by the sale of UniHomes in October 2025 following a period of transformational growth.
It publishes an annual list of the 50 most ambitious business leaders, celebrating “the leaders behind some of the UK’s most exciting mid-sized firms,”
