Access to markets

Scaleup companies seek to develop new products and services, and their domestic and international customer base, as quickly as possible. In the UK, however, many report difficulties in supplying to large corporates and the public sector due to the lack of transparency, transaction costs and complexity involved. Scaleups also find it difficult to make the leap into overseas markets, given the challenges and risks, and can have difficulties gaining regulatory approval for innovative new products.

Committee

The purpose of the Access to Markets Committee is to provide assessment and direction on the key needs and policy issues affecting access to markets for scaleup businesses, specifically corporate and government procurement, exports and internationalisation. It will also research, analysis and thought leadership as well as review programmes that support scaleup businesses, in order to develop appropriate case studies and learnings. Where relevant, specific sector support and analysis will also be undertaken.

The Committee reviews on an annual basis the existing programmes as identified in the 2014 Scale-Up Report, and assesses new programmes to put forward to the Evidence Committee. It reviews policies on access to markets in the UK and internationally.
