Local LEP ScaleUp Programmes

Following a successful pilot, 2020/2021 saw the successful delivery of the Unlocking Ambition 2 Programme with a focus on Net Zero transition. Participants benefit from a mix of training and support, peer to peer cohorts and development grant funding (£25k with a small number of larger awards for exceptional opportunities). . Women founders and senior leaders in their businesses were assisted with training, peer-to-peer support and coaching to increase their leadership skills and grow their businesses to scale through Principally Women which is aimed at reducing the gender gap in founding and leadership teams in high growth firms in Scotland.
The Northern Innovation Hub expanded its programmes of support in specific sectors across the Highland and Islands region helping businesses to grow through embracing innovation and entrepreneurship. Among these are the Pathfinder Accelerator – a 6-month programme for life science and technology SMEs looking to take a new product or service to market – and Impact30 which supports young entrepreneurs and business leaders make an impact on their industry, focusing on the tools, skills and knowledge required to grow their business.

The Scottish Government confirmed a further £1.5m to Scottish Enterprise to deliver a UA3 programme in 2021/22 programme for entrepreneurs looking to scale, aligned with Scottish Enterprise’s Net Zero and green fair jobs ambitions. A cohort of 31 companies (38 founders) has been selected with a focus on those on the verge of scaling up.
