The Development Bank of Wales – a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Welsh Government – provides Welsh businesses with capital to start upl strengthen and grow. In the financial year ending 31 March 2020 it made 402 investments worth £105.6 million directly into Welsh businesses, including completing co-investments in 2 visible scaleups. It also raised £60 million of additional investment from banks and other private-sector funders. In the same year the bank created or safeguarded 3316 jobs. There are currently more than 100 companies in the Bank’s equity portfolios. Notable recent scaleup exits from their portfolio include SIPHON Networks with a 2.11 return on investment and they have also supported six companies through initial public offering (IPO) on AIM.
The Bank has a network of network of local account managers who also make referrals to Business Wales for business advice and support. Business Wales delivers an Accelerated Growth Programme via a team of highly experienced and proven high growth entrepreneurs targeted at high growth businesses who want to enter their next phase of growth.
