Beringea is a US based venture capital firm investing in the UK, Europe, and the USA, with a focus on sectors including healthcare, cleantech, consumer, media, business services, and technology. In the UK and EU, it typically makes initial investments between £1 million and £10 million into companies with at least £1 million in turnover, often leading Series A or Series B rounds, with further funding available for follow-on investments. 

Between 2018 and June 2025, it invested in 10 UK-based companies across 14 fundraisings, with 6 of these at growth stage. These companies had an average turnover of £35.2 million and employed an average of 98 people.

Scaleups within Beringea’s portfolio include MPB, an online marketplace that enables users to buy and sell secondhand photo & video equipment and Poq, an online platform for the creation of native (i.e. proprietary to a given retailer) e-commerce apps. 

Beringea’s activity in the UK this year, primarily through its management of the ProVen VCTs (Venture Capital Trusts), involved a focus on backing ambitious scale-up businesses. Notable activities included: a £6.5 million Series A investment in the disabled-friendly travel specialist Limitless Travel, and a £4.2 million Series A in dual-use simulation-based training start-up VRAI. Additionally, Beringea continued to raise capital for future investments, with the ProVen VCTs announcing a fundraise targeting up to £40 million across the 2024/25 and 2025/26 tax years.

The firm runs its own Scaleup Academy, an annual programme of events and training to help the leadership teams of its portfolio companies overcome barriers to scale, and emphasises its capabilities in assisting the transatlantic expansion strategies of its portfolio companies.

Beringea has been a leading figure in the creation of ESG_VC, an industry initiative it co-founded and continues to chair, supporting early-stage companies to measure, monitor, and improve their performance across key ESG metrics. The initiative now includes over 125 venture firms across the UK, US, and Europe and provides a standardised framework of 48 metrics for benchmarking ESG performance. The firm has also been accredited at Level 2 in the Diversity VC Standard—the highest available—recognising its adoption of best practice in diversity and inclusion across its operations.
