Cambridge Angels is a group of more than 60 high-net-worth investors who invest in and mentor high quality early-stage and scaling companies in Cambridge, London, Oxford and throughout the UK. The network continues to focus on sectors including science and engineering-based innovation, healthcare, and technologies with strong growth potential.

Typical funding requirements that Cambridge Angels meet are in the range of £150k to £1.5m – although several portfolio companies have raised significant follow-on funding from its members and the network’s VC partners over several funding rounds. There is a particular focus on deep-tech, and tools and technologies supporting healthcare.

In addition to providing funding, Cambridge Angels also offer expertise, contacts and directly relevant experience to early-stage and scaling companies – in what it terms “smart capital from entrepreneurs to entrepreneurs.”

Emphasis is placed upon leveraging the collective experience of the portfolio and the angels. Sessions are hosted in which angels and a network of professionals and associates provide portfolio companies with education sessions on topics such as exits and building leadership teams.

Between January 2018 and June 2025, Cambridge Angels participated in 241 fundraisings backing 142 UK-based companies with 77% of companies invested being at the growth stage at the time of fundraising. Notable scaleups within their portfolio include Xampla, a pioneer in delivering Biodegradable materials; Paragraf, advancing graphene-based electronics and sensors; PhoreMost, developing novel drug discovery approaches for previously “undruggable” diseases; and successful exit this last year Featurespace, a leader in AI-driven fraud and financial crime prevention.

In 2025, Cambridge Angels continued to deepen its influence in the UK innovation ecosystem. It participated in a Ventures Tour as part of Cambridge Wide Open Week, bringing its portfolio companies into active pitch sessions alongside leading VCs and incubators, while also conducting office hours sessions at Cambridge Tech Week to support the companies that were demonstrating their innovation. Cambridge Angels has actively supported the founding and growth of recently established angel groups, Manchester Angels, Sheffield Angels and Oxford Venture Angels. The network remains tightly curated, capped at around 60 members, who provide “smart capital” — combining investment with mentorship and connections — and operate under a no-fees-to-founders policy. Cambridge Angels is also an Innovate UK Investor Partner.
