The Google Digital Garage offers courses, digital tools and webinars for business skills development free to all online – expanding offerings to meet needs continuously. Since 2015, Google has helped train over one million people and has visited more than 500 locations across the UK, providing free digital skills training to individuals and businesses. It offers a diverse range of learning formats, such as online courses, in-person workshops, and virtual webinars, covering subjects ranging from marketing to coding.
In 2023, Google Digital Garage partnered with AND Digital to develop a new suite of trainer-led courses aimed at enhancing digital skills for small and medium-sized scaling businesses in the UK. These courses cover emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cloud Computing, and Data, as well as essential business skills like leadership and marketing and aim to enhance business competitiveness in a digital-first market.
Additionally, between September and November 2023, Google Digital Garage hosted in-person events across various UK locations, in partnership with organisations such as Enterprise Nation. These sessions offered free training on topics like social media strategy, digital marketing, and building an online presence, while also providing opportunities for one-on-one mentoring with Google Digital Coaches. The initiative aimed to support small scaling business owners, aspiring entrepreneurs, and individuals looking to enhance their careers by equipping them with practical digital skills and personalised guidance. Workshops continued into 2024, offering sessions on AI skills, digital marketing, and problem-solving, along with one-on-one mentoring from Google digital trainers.
In November 2024, London’s first Google-funded AI Campus was inaugurated in Camden. This centre is dedicated to developing young people’s skills in AI and machine learning through a two-year pilot programme, beginning with 32 students aged 16-18. Participants benefit from mentoring by Google’s DeepMind and engage with real-world AI applications in fields such as health, social sciences, and the arts.
Alongside the campus launch, Google announced £865,000 in funding for an AI literacy programme. This initiative, in partnership with charities like the Raspberry Pi Foundation and Parent Zone, aims to train teachers to reach over 250,000 students by the end of 2026, ensuring broader access to AI education.
