The Google Digital Garage offers free online courses, digital tools and webinars aimed at developing business and digital skills for individuals and organisations across the UK. Since its UK launch in 2015, Google reports that it has helped train over one million people and businesses, and has delivered activity in more than 500 locations nationwide. The programme provides a range of learning formats, from self-paced online courses and live webinars to in-person workshops and one-to-one mentoring, covering subjects from marketing and coding to leadership and management.
The Google Digital Garage continues to evolve its curriculum in response to the UK’s changing digital skills landscape. In partnership with tech consultancy AND Digital, it has introduced a refreshed suite of eight trainer-led courses designed to strengthen the digital capability and competitiveness of UK SMEs. These programmes focus on developing practical skills across key growth areas including Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing and Data Analytics, while reinforcing foundational competencies in digital marketing and leadership to help firms harness technology more effectively to drive productivity and scale.
The Google Digital Garage also continues its nationwide programme with Enterprise Nation, delivering in-person workshops across the UK, including in Birmingham, Carlisle and Leyton. The refreshed curriculum places greater emphasis on Generative AI and its practical application for SMEs in marketing and productivity, complemented by one-to-one mentoring from Google-accredited trainers.
In addition, the Digital Garage has launched a new ‘New Fundamentals’ ten-module training series, delivered through live events and webinars, focusing on the essential skills required for the next phase of digital transformation. The curriculum covers productivity with AI, working with data, cloud technologies and cybersecurity, helping individuals and small businesses to build their digital capability and adapt to a rapidly changing technology environment.
Looking ahead, Google plans to further expand the Digital Garage programme through new partnerships and an enhanced focus on emerging technologies. Building on insights from the AI Works report, upcoming initiatives include an ‘AI Prompting Essentials’ series to support SMEs in adopting generative AI tools effectively. The curriculum will continue to evolve in collaboration with AND Digital, ensuring alignment with business needs in AI, cloud and data, while extending hybrid and in-person delivery across the UK to enable more firms to access practical, up-to-date digital skills training.
