Minerva Business Angels, part of the University of Warwick Science Park, is a well-established angel network providing significant support to early-stage companies across the UK. Operating since 1994, it focuses on sectors such as technology, healthcare, and green technology, targeting businesses with strong growth potential. Minerva connects entrepreneurs with investors through its ten investment groups located in the Midlands, London, and the North West. The programme’s close collaboration with academic institutions like Aston and Birmingham universities provides portfolio companies with access to cutting-edge research and resources, further aiding their innovation journey.

Since January 2018 to June 2025, Minerva has participated in 90 fundraisings in 62 companies. The average turnover of these companies was £926k with an average employee count of 12.

Recent investments by Minerva into companies dating back to 2024 include Feraru Dynamics, a firm that manufactures personal health monitoring devices wherein the amount contributed is £50.0k and Dinetic, an AI sporting app, wherein Minerva participated in a funding round worth £236k. Scaleups they have supported include Boulevard, a firm that operates an online marketplace wherein they participated in a funding round worth £30.0k 

Beyond financial support, Minerva offers strategic mentorship and regional resources through partnerships with Sci-Tech Daresbury and Black Country Growth Hub. Minerva has a strong track record of nurturing scaleups, including repeat investments in several visible scaleup companies, such as We Are Group, which experienced significant job growth under Minerva’s guidance. Through its investments, Minerva fosters sustainable growth, often seeing companies exit successfully, including acquisitions and increased revenue, as seen with Econotherm, which achieved a remarkable revenue boost post-investment.

Minerva has had a strong year in 2025 focusing on funding regional startups and promoting diversity in angel investing. They co-organized and participated in the competitive Minerva Pitch Up competition at Venturefest West Midlands 2025, where the automotive start-up RACE Solutions was the winner. Minerva has also been actively engaged in diversity initiatives, acting as the Midlands lead for the UK Business Angel Association’s (UKBAA) ‘Embracing Diversity’ scheme to attract a more diverse mix of investors and entrepreneurs. The network typically focuses its deals on the £0–£3 million turnover range, primarily targeting companies in next-generation digital technologies, net zero, and health and well-being.
