Manufacturing / Advanced Manufacturing

The National Composites Centre (NCC), located in Bristol, is the UK’s leading research and development facility for advanced composite materials and manufacturing. As part of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult, the NCC collaborates with industry and academia to drive innovation across sectors such as aerospace, automotive, and renewable energy. In 2023, the NCC launched the ‘Certification by Analysis’ toolkit, designed to help manufacturers reduce product testing time and costs by optimizing physical testing and increasing virtual testing techniques.

Additionally, the NCC has invested over £200 million in state-of-the-art capabilities, including braiding, fibre placement, high-volume manufacturing, ultra-high-rate deposition, ceramic matrix composites, resin impregnation, and verification. These advancements underscore the NCC’s commitment to accelerating product and technology development through advanced materials, digital engineering, sustainability, and hydrogen initiatives.
