North East Fund

The North East Fund has been established with funding from the North East of England European Regional Development Fund programme, the European Investment Bank and from returns on previous North East based, publicly supported investment funds, with the support of the Department for Business and Trade and the British Business Bank.

They provide investment finance to small and medium sized companies based in Tyne & Wear, Northumberland and County Durham. They also provide guidance to companies on the different sources of finance and business support which are available in North East England.

Between 2018 and 2023, their funds invested £128m in 435 companies, helping those companies to secure additional funding of £263m – creating a £391m impact in the region to date. Over 3,125 new jobs have been created so far by investees.

The fund provides finance to companies which cannot obtain the funding they need from banks or other private investors. This is usually because they are developing as-yet-unproven innovations, are too early-stage or lack the trading history or collateral to secure bank finance.
