Octopus Group is a privately held financial services and energy firm company. Octopus Investments, which started in 2000, has £13.4bn assets under management in the UK on behalf of 63,000 investors and has over 750 employees.
Octopus Investment has four VCTs: Future Generations, Titan, Apollo and two AIM VCTs.
Octopus Titan VCT is the UK’s largest Venture Capital Trust (VCT), managing approximately £1.1 billion in assets as of October 2023. Since its launch in 2007, it has raised substantial funds from over 40,000 investors. The VCT has built a diverse portfolio of around 140 companies, primarily in the UK tech-enabled sectors, such as health, fintech, deep tech, and climate. Octopus Titan typically invests between £1 million and £10 million in initial funding rounds and has the ability to follow on with further investments up to £20 million. The VCT’s focus remains on early-stage companies with high growth potential, aiming for a 20% equity stake in new investments.
Apollo VCT has a varied portfolio of around 45 companies (focusing on business-to-business (B2B) software) with high growth potential. Future Generations VCT invests in purpose-driven businesses.
Each of Octopus Investments’ sectors includes a “People + Talent partner” who offers advisory support to clients on matters such as compensation, organisational structure, employee well-being, leadership, and communication. Notably, clients joining at the seed or Series A investment stage are assigned a dedicated People + Talent partner for the first 12 months to help plan and implement their recruitment, retention, leadership, and culture strategies. In addition, the firm’s website provides sector-specific guides for clients on topics such as raising capital, maintaining strong relationships with funders, and developing talent within the organisation.
