Octopus Group is a privately held financial services and energy firm. Octopus Investments, which started in 2000, has £9.9 billion in assets under management on behalf of over 70,000 investors and has supported 404 fundraisings for 251 UK companies. The firm employs over 600 people.
Octopus Investments manages a range of funds and investment products across multiple sectors, including venture capital, renewable energy, and real estate. Its venture capital arm operates four VCTs: Future Generations, Titan, Apollo, and two AIM VCTs, which together back high-growth and scaling UK businesses across different stages of development.
Octopus Investments typically supports scaleups and early-stage companies in tech-enabled sectors such as health, fintech, deep tech, and climate innovation, investing between £1 million and £10 million in initial rounds, with capacity for follow-on funding of up to £20 million. The firm’s approach combines financial investment with strategic and operational support, aiming to help ambitious businesses scale sustainably and become category leaders.
Each of Octopus Investments’ sectors includes a People + Talent Partner, who provides advisory support to clients on compensation, organisational structure, leadership, and employee well-being. Startups and scaleups joining at the seed or Series A stage are assigned a dedicated People + Talent Partner for their first 12 months to support recruitment, retention, leadership, and culture development. In addition, Octopus Investments offers a suite of online, sector-specific resources for founders and investors on topics such as raising capital, building relationships with funders, and developing talent within growing organisations.
In 2024, Octopus also expanded its collaboration with external investment platforms, including new VCT distribution services launched by major retail investment providers. These partnerships are designed to make access to venture capital products more streamlined for investors and to sustain capital flows into early-stage and scaling UK companies.
