Since its inception in 2013, Sharing in Growth (SiG) has been instrumental in enhancing the productivity and competitiveness of UK manufacturing and engineering businesses. Originally focused on aerospace, SiG now supports a diverse range of sectors, including defence, offshore renewables, modular construction, nuclear, and medical technologies. The programme helps businesses secure a share of global markets by providing world-class coaching, intensive support, and advanced training. Over the past decade, SiG has worked with more than 100 scaling companies with turnovers between £5 million and £100 million, offering bespoke support to accelerate growth. Supported by a team of over 100 business coaches, the programme strengthens leadership, workforce engagement, strategy, and operational efficiency. Typically, a participating company receives £1 million worth of support and training over four years, with no initial financial commitment required; businesses match the support value through in-kind contributions.

SiG follows a structured three-phase approach. It begins with a comprehensive diagnostic review to assess strengths and areas for improvement, followed by an intensive two-year development phase offering targeted support and training. The final sustain phase, lasting two to three years, ensures that new capabilities and improvements become fully embedded into business operations. To support this, SiG collaborates with 19 specialist organisations, including the University of Cambridge’s Institute for Manufacturing, Deloitte, Multiverse, and the National Physical Laboratory.

In 2022, SiG introduced an online learning platform to complement its coaching services, enhancing the speed and impact of business transformation. The platform covers ten core areas, such as operational excellence, lean leadership behaviours, supply chain management, and quality control, all designed to drive meaningful business improvements. Amid economic challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and shifting international trade agreements, SiG has played a vital role in helping companies diversify their customer base and enhance productivity. Independent assessments, including a 2021 review by the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS), confirmed the programme’s impact, with participating businesses achieving 30% higher turnover growth than comparable firms, alongside significant gains in leadership effectiveness, workforce engagement, and strategic decision-making.

SiG continues to be a transformative force in the UK supply chain, ensuring that the next generation of manufacturing and engineering companies is equipped to compete and thrive in global markets.
