EAST MIDLANDS AND EAST OF ENGLAND
Across the East Midlands and East of England region there are 3,370 scaleups with key clusters in Wholesale & Retail, Admin & Support Services and Manufacturing. There are 1,685 businesses in the scaling pipeline growing between 15-19.99%.
There are 7 localities within this region. 6 local authorities in the region (Cambridge, East Cambridgeshire, Fenland, Huntingdonshire, Peterborough, South Cambridgeshire) have combined to form the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority. Over the eight year trend since monitoring began we see on a regional level:
- The average of the region has remained almost the same from 40.4 in 2013 to 39.1 in 2021 in scaleup density. By comparison the national average increased by only 0.3 scaleups per 100k population during this time period.
More locally we observe:
- Cambridgeshire & Peterborough has always tracked above the UK average but showed a steep decline in 2021, falling from 65 in 2020 to 48 scaleups per 100k population in 2021.
